Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend  Next Entry
Yay! my cushions are finally sellling ^_^ I finally got permission to post about them on a forum I'm on, on I think Wednesday, and I've already got orders for 5 o_O Only problem is that my pot pourri just doesn't want to take on the scent so that at the moment, my cinnamon smells like cloves and nutmeg, my vanilla smells like buttercream (which is ok since buttercream's yummy), my lavender smells like lavender (SUCCESS!) and my rose smells like a pile of fresh cut grass and dahlias. I'm currently overloading it with rose oil and then I'm going to bake it a bit to dry it out, see if that draws out the scent a little (as it would appear that the 'dried star flowers' I got aren't so much dried as 'facecloth hung over the edge of the bath for 4 hours' dried, ie, almost dry but with slight residual dampness). But, luckily, the only ones I have definite confirmation on scent for are vanilla ones, so I can get those done and scent off (if you'll pardon the pun :P).

Oooooh, and I also got picked as a new moderator on the unofficial Il Divo fan club site, which is gooood. it may not be a big deal or anything, but for someone who's never really done anything much useful outside of the home before, it's a big deal for me, because for once I have a role that's useful and fun, and can lead to more friends, which is always a good thing.

Thirdfully, I got a letter through the post from our M.E. group, asking if I want to 'do it again', namely abseiling off the Tyne Bridge. I took one look at it and burst out laughing. Yes, I did it last year, and yes I earned money for the group, and yes it was well worth it for the charity and the awareness we raised, and yes, it was kinda fun, in that 'oh my god I actually survived, I really am invincible' kinda way, but there is NO WAY IN HELL they are getting me back up there. It took me ten minutes just to stop shaking enough to get over the edge, and then another ten minutes to get rid of the shaking AGAIN once they'd found a box tall enough for me to stand on to actually get over the edge. And let me tell you, if you've never been abseiling before, it's a great way to find out what a thong feels like when it's fitting wrong. They strapped me into the harness, and the harness didn't quite take into account the fact that I'm shorter than a person of my girth would normally be, so all the way down that rope I was practically flat on my back with two straps around my legs alternating between wrapping themselves under my knees and trying to cut me in half up through the middle. I walked funny for hours after that. And they want me to do it again? Nooooooo thankyou.

And while I'm on the subject of ridiculousness, what on earth is it with dog dogs (as opposed to bitch dogs) and PEEING!?! I mean, I know they're marking their territory and lal that jazz, but is it really necessary to walk along half a block sniffing and peeing on every single doorstep? And then, once they've done that, is it really necessary to do the exact same thing on the way back, on the exact same route in the exact same spots, sniffing their OWN markings and re-scenting, even when they've run out of pee? It struck me this morning just how ridiculous that is, when I was walking Buddy (our little Shih Tzu). He walked down the street, sniffing and marking every yard, and then did his little lamppost-sniff-n-pee before turning around and heading back. on the way back, he did the same thing, but about halfway along, he ran out, so that he was raising his leg and nothing was happening. And then, stupid little canine he is, he wandered along to the next yard, sniffed the entrance, and rather than even raising his leg, he just stood with his butt up against the wall for a second. I mean, what is that?! If a dog's gotta try and mark, he can at least TRY to pee. Yet more evidence that even in other species, the male is still obsessed with being superior, even when it's all show.

Anywho, that's my rant over with, and my news told, see y'all later!

hey, looked you up after your post on carb less at food porn. Looks like you didn't get quite what you asked for and to avoid another rant on diets, give me a few more specifics and I'll go through my recipes and send you some. Can i also assume that you are as busy during the day as the rest of us and things that are quick to make or make great left overs would be appreciated? Tell me a bit about your IBS- salad not good but are cooked greens okay? What kind of veggies are considered 'carbs' (like white potatoes are considered carb, but I think sweet potatoes might not be?) Anyway, would love to help out if you're interested. And yeah, having a male dog myself, what's up with that? I mean really, how big is a dog's bladder?

Hiya! I haven't forgotten to email you, I promise, it's just been seeeeriously hectic here and I haven't gotten much time to reply to anything much. I'm putting together a list of what ingredients i've found that I can eat and are low carb so as soon as I've got that, I'll email it to you if that's ok?

On the plus side, although everyone on the food_porn coom was telling me how bad this kind of a diet is, I've lost nearly a stone (not sure if you're British or not but in case you're not, a stone is 14lbs) and am feeling better than I have in a long time, and it would appear that, as my doc theorised, my IBS actually WAS down to eating carbs, as since I went off carbs as much as possible (allowing a tiny bit a day as the doc said), I can finally eat salad greens again without pain! Yay! However, I have found out, fennel is gross. ^_^

Thankye muchly for the support! It's great to have people around that aren't constant ranters :)

Is it ok if I add you?

Hey! Glad to see the lunatics didn't scare you away entirely. If people would just realize that anything taken to an extreme is not a good thing well, that's another soapbox. YES add me (and I'll add you back) if you really wanna hear all about my family, kids, hobbies and such. I'd love to get that email about foods that work and such. My oldest child has learning problems - in there with Attention Deficit and borderline autistic and dislexic. We are going to try a diet modification. Some experts reccommend a wholly protein breakfast and not introducing carbs and fruits until lunch and round the day out with a veggie packed dinner and more protein, something about how the brain functions in relation to metabolism. But bacon and eggs gets really boring. So I am definitely looking for good low carb recipes and not traditionally breakfast foods.

We are in Texas. I knew stones was a British measurement but didn't realize how much it was. Glad to hear the key factor for your motabolism had been identified. And YAY to hear salad is back on the menu (I especially enjoy dinner salads with grilled meats in the summer when it's hot). I don't know much about IBS except that it's something I NEVER want to deal with! (yeah, agree with you on the fennel). Secret tip for looking another stone lighter - SMILE!!! now that you are feeling better, a big smile that reflects that will keep you going in the right direction and garner a few compliments as well I suspect! Looking forward to seeing you on lj!

Hi there!

Also stalking you from food_porn. ;) I thought I'd move over here, because it's gotten a little crazy over there. I suppose anytime you bring up changes in eating habits, people are going to get a little weird.

Anyhoo!

Here's some information on trans fats. Since you'll be avoiding most carbs, you'll probably be avoiding a lot of these too, because they pop up primarily in fried foods and processed foods, like packaged cookies, etc. The other big thing to watch out for is vegetable oil, which I know a lot of people use, especially for cooking. Olive oil is a better alternative, and really good if you're still wanting that Lemon Pepper Chicken. :) I usually just cut the chicken up small, throw a little oil in the pan, sautee with spices and you're good to go!

Here's the links I meant to give you, before I starting chattering:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trans_fat
http://www.fda.gov/FDAC/features/2003/503_fats.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olive_oil

If you read the full article on Trans Fat from Wikipedia (the fist link), you'll find that a few of the major cities in the states have started banning trans fats from restaurants. That's really been the thing to trans fats to everyone's attention, including mine.

GOOD LUCK! I'll probably still LJ stalk you and drop by every now and then. :)

Hi there! Stalk away, the more the merrier! ^_^

Thanks for the links and advice, there's some really useful info there. I showed my mum your reply and, goodness knows why, but somehow in the last couple of weeks she's become and olive oil and lemon pepper fiend. Hmmmmm, I wonder why *heehee*!

As I mentioned to the person above, contrary to the reports everyone over on food_porn was giving, I feel better than ever now I'm used to this diet (which for someone with M.E. and IBS is a biiiig thing), and it seems to be sorting out some of my food problems as things I couldn't eat before, I'm suddenly able to eat again, I even managed 1/4 glass of milk the other day!!! O_O (to put that into perspective, around the time I developed M.E., and at the same time, IBS, I also suddenly became unable to drink milk AT ALL, it gave me a severe reaction)

So yeah, that's my ramble over with for now, before I get too hyper lol, but as I say, feel free to say hi whenever ya want, I love to chat :D

Awwwwwwww hun! *hugs* No worries about it, I just wanted to be sure our postie hadn't decided to filch it or something (they tend to do that a lot round here so I always follow up on posts after about a week, just to be sure something hasn't been swiped again).

I don't think anyone will hold it against you, after all, it's been less than a week, and a lot of people take much much MUCH longer than that to send things out. And besides, you have a very good reason for the delay, which is more than a lot of people do (it usually comes down to 'I forgot'). If you want to, I could post for you on the comm, save you having to email everybody, if that'd help. You could draft a message and I can post it on the feedback comm. Just thought it might save some of the time you could spend resting and getting yourself better :)

Hope you feel better soon hun, and don't worry, I don't think anyone will be mad, and if they are, it's just them being petty :P xx

nope, not yet, but the guide for shipping times (according to Royal Mail here) from the States is 7-10 days, so I'm giving it at least a couple more days before I worry ^_^

Thanks! It's slowed down a bit at the moment, but that's mostly because I'm taking a break from advertising until I get the new ones made up and ready to stuff, and the pot pourri made, so that I can be ready to put them together when orders come through. I've already got a fair bit of interest though from pagans I know, and I've even had some from people I know that are totally anti-Pagan asking about buying pentagram ones, which is quite funny when I think about it :D

Thanks hun :) I'll admit it did upset me pretty bad, as my mum's having preliminary exams before double heart surgery at the moment so I'm faaaar more sensitive than I normally would be. Funny thing is, I was reading one of his posts the other day and thought he seemed decent, guess I was wrong lol.

Nice to know, though, that there's still nice people on there ^_^ It seems like the extremes are getting more distant, you get lovely people and then really nasty ones. I must've just picked a bad time lol

Hello dear! Apologies for posting on your personal LJ, was just wondering if you still wanted the DS game we discussed here?
http://community.livejournal.com/thriftstoreuk/15105926.html

My paypal is icanseethetearsofshastasheen at hotmail dot com if you wish to send the cash over. I think we agreed on £11, if you still want it. :)

Yes please hun :) Do you mind if I send the money tomorrow? I overspent this weekend buying bday presents for my mum but my carer's allowance goes in tomorrow so I can guarantee I'll send it tomorrow :) I'm out in the morning for mum's hospital appointment but should be back by mid-afternoon at the latest if that's alright.
